The Armor of God

The armor of God is described in the Bible book of Ephesians, chapter 6, verses 10 through 20.  The armor of God is necessary for every believer because our enemy, the devil, has come to steal, kill, and destroy.  Ephesians 6 says that the armor of God is necessary to stand against the enemy.  This chapter also clearly states that we do not battle against people ("flesh and blood"), but against wicked spirits ("against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places").  Your spouse is not your enemy.  Neither is your boss, your co-worker, your teacher, etc.

You are in a war with these wicked spirits, whether you choose to fight or not.  A believer that chooses not to fight is unarmed against a powerful enemy that is intent on killing, stealing, and destroying.  Our weapons in this war are spiritual weapons.  Our weapons are the armor of God, the Name of Jesus, and the Word of God - the Bible.

Each morning you should put on the entire armor of God by praying this prayer in Jesus Name:

Heavenly Father,

In Jesus Name, I put on the whole armor of God.  I put on the helmet of salvation, and the breastplate of righteousness, and the shield of faith, and the sword of the Holy Spirit, the belt of truth and my feet have shoes made of the gospel of peace.  Amen.

By praying this prayer you are beginning your day fully protected from your spiritual enemies. You may not be able to see your armor, but your spiritual enemies can!

Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the plans of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having put on the belt of truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having as your shoes the preparation of the gospel of peace.  Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains.  That in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
