The Name Above All NamesIn the word of God, the Bible, a person's name is very important. God frequently changed a person's name to give him a name with a different meaning. God elevated His Son's Name, Jesus, be be above all other names. Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God , but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a slave and coming in the likeness of men . And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross . Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name , that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth , and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth. Jesus gives us the authority us to use His Name: John 14:12 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. 13 "And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 "If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. 1 John 5:14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us . And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. Peter and John prayed in Jesus' Name for a blind man and his eyes were healed and he could see. The religious leaders of the area became angry and questioned Peter about this healing. Acts 3:1 Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour . And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple ; who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms . And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, "Look at us." So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them . Then Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk." Jesus, again, authorizes us to use His Name. Mark 16:17 "And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 "they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover." John 22 "Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you. 23 "And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. 24 "Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. Acts 3:7 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, "By what power or by what name have you done this?" Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people and elders of Israel: "If we this day are judged for a good deed done to a helpless man, by what means he has been made well , "let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole . "This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus . And seeing the man who had been healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it . But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves , saying, "What shall we do to these men? For, indeed, that a notable miracle has been done through them is evident to all who dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it . "But so that it spreads no further among the people, let us severely threaten them, that from now on they speak to no man in this name." And they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus . But Peter and John answered and said to them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge . "For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard." So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way of punishing them, because of the people, since they all glorified God for what had been done . For the man was over forty years old on whom this miracle of healing had been performed. Acts 2:21 And it shall come to pass that everyone that calls on the Name of the Lord shall be saved. God gave the following commandment regarding His Name: Exodus 3:7 "You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain. Malach1 1:14 "For I am a great King, says the Lord of hosts, and my name is to be feared." I Samuel 17:45 Then David said to the Philistine, "You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied . "This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. Matthew 1:20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit . "And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." Genesis 17:3 Then Abram fell on his face, and God talked with him, saying : "As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations . "No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations . "I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you . "And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you. 15 Then God said to Abraham, "As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name. 16 "And I will bless her and also give you a son by her; then I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of peoples shall be from her."19 Then God said: "No, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his descendants after him. Genesis 27:28 And He said, "Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed." Exodus 4:10 "Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt." 11 But Moses said to God, "Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?" 12 So He said, "I will certainly be with you. And this shall be a sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain." 13 Then Moses said to God, "Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they say to me, ‘What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?" 14 And God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM." |
