Exact Date of Messiah's Coming ProphesiedIn the Bible the prophet Daniel gave the exact date that the Messiah, God's anointed One, would come for Israel . This prophecy is recorded in the book of Daniel chapter 9, verses 25 and 26. This Scripture says "Know and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and build Jerusalem until the coming of the Messiah shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks . It shall be built again with city square and walls but in troubled times . And after the sixty-two weeks shall the Messiah be cut off ..." Off course, seven weeks and sixty-two weeks is a total of sixty-nine weeks . Those that study prophecy agree that a prophetic week is seven years, and a prophetic year is 360 days . Therefore, the Messiah was to come 173,880 days after the order was given to restore Jerusalem. The order to restore Jerusalem was given on March 4, 444 BC. This order is recorded in the Bible book of Nehemiah, chapter 2, verse 8. Note that king Artaxerxes was Ester's stepson . If we move forward in time 173,880 days we come to March 28, 33 A.D. The events of this day are recorded in the Bible books of Mark, chapter 11, verses 1-11 and in the book of John, chapter 12. This day is the day known by Christians as Palm Sunday . Jesus of Nazareth was welcomed as the Messiah and Israel's king by all the people gathered in Jerusalem for the feasts . This welcome was the result of the teachings of Jesus and the many miracles He performed, including raising Lazarus from the dead just days earlier. John chapter 12 says that a great crowd came to Jerusalem to see Jesus that day and that they wanted to see Lazarus also . Because of Lazarus, many people were believing on Jesus as the Messiah . The large group that had been with Jesus when He called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead kept telling the story to anyone that would listen . Some in that huge crowd welcomed their Messiah because they had studied Daniel's prophecy . Verse 42 states that many of the chief rulers believed in Jesus, but they feared that the Pharisees would expel them from the synagogue, the church . They valued the approval of man more than the approval of God . Four days later, the second part of Daniel's prophecy was fulfilled . The Messiah was "cut off", crucified on a Roman cross . Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathaea, two of the chief rulers, members of the Sanhedran, risked their lives to take the body of Jesus and bury it in Joseph's tomb . This fulfilled another prophecy, Isaiah 53:9. |
